Walking tour to discover the DOP products of Lake Garda: from the visit to the oil mill with tasting of the Garda Evo oil, to the visit with wine tasting in the cellar and light lunch.
An excursion with oil and wine tasting, the excellences of the Lake Garda area. It is an experience to get to know up close the production of oil and wine of west lake Garda through its DPO excellences. Italy is the country with the highest number of products registered as designations of origin in the EU. The PDO system originates from the world of wine and is adopted over time by the EU. They decided to transpose national OCDs, extending the system to other productions. The walking tour takes you to get familiar with these products. You visit the production sites and learn to know the producers personally: join us and be part of the experience to know the “terroir”!
Itinerary
The walking tourbegins in the town of San Felice del Benaco, in Portese. Here we visit the oil mill and taste three samples of Garda EVO oil. The route continues along the northern edge of San Felice village until you reach Via Ortal, where the uphill path begins. The walking tour helps us to experience the morainic basin of the lower lake physically. It alternates steps and flat terraces used for cultivation. From the first hill, the route continues to the right towards Raffa di Puegnago village and after crossing thestate road towards the cellar. The return route proceeds on an alternative itinerary to Montecroce locality. The path lands just in front of the Sanctuary of Carmine in San Felice: we proceed to the left and go back to the parking lot walking through san Felice downtown
The itinerary is 12 km long and lasts about 7 hours.
Wine and oil tasting
The tasting includes three types of PDO Garda EVO oil and some small snacks based on Evo oil. At the oil mill, we learn the characteristics of the local products. “La Verità” is an olive oil mill organized in a cooperative partnering with local farmers. Since 1947 they receive the olives harvested by local farmers only and transform the fruits into EVO oil. At the winery, the tasting includes three wines from the Valtenesi area. During the tasting, we will get to know the native wine of west lake Garda: the legend of Chiaretto. The farm products tell stories about nature: of men and women who have cared for them for centuries.
